About the KLM Eliya

KLM Eliya is a 30 x 6.3 meter Phinisi sailing boat that has been lovingly handcrafted by master ship builders. After many hours of research and design we were ready to begin bringing her to life! The master boat builders (arguably the best Phinisi boat builders in the world, from the Sulawesi region) started her from the keel up. The carpentry is exemplary and this purpose built dive vessel has been built with the need of the diver in mind. We have combined traditional Phinisi style shipbuilding with modern comforts and safety.

KLM Eliya was launched in 2024. The boat and crew will ensure you have an unforgettable diving holiday in one of the world’s very best diving destinations - the magical and mystical world of Komodo National Park.

KLM Eliya Layout

KLM Eliya has the capacity for a total of 14 guests in 6 custom designed ensuite cabins and, with our highly professional crew of 8 serving your every need, you will be well taken care of while onboard.

KLM Eliya has been built with one simple thought in mind - world class diving onboard a beautifully crafted, well run, professional live-aboard that will leave you feeling spoiled from the moment you come aboard until the moment you depart.

This phinisi is fitted out with a diving deck with ample space for all of your dive gear as well as camera stations and charging points. There are multiple areas to relax onboard including the sundeck area on the upper deck, the alfresco dining area at the bow of the boat and the covered seating/dining area at the stern, where our bar, with a selection of drinks will be available for your enjoyment. For more details, check out our cabins and layout page!

How the dive day works!

The diving day starts early in the morning with a wake up around dawn. During your full days onboard we will aim to complete 4 dives over the course of the day. Three daylight dives and one sunset or night dive depending on the location.

Briefings will be given onboard KLM Eliya by our experienced dive crew, before getting ready for the dive. Once everyone is prepared, we will use our two purpose built speedboats to carry our guests to the dive sites. These boats can be safely accessed via the collapsible ladder on the side of Eliya. Each of our speed boats can accommodate 12 divers however we will split our guests across both speedboats to ensure ample space and comfort.

All of our guests are provided with our custom made Scuba Junkie microfibre hooded towels for use on the dive deck in between dives.

After the dive you will return to KLM Eliya and while you are enjoying your surface interval our efficient crew will ensure your tanks and dive gear are fully prepped and ready in time for your next dive adventure!

Our dive crew will spoil you with world class diving and the KLM Eliya is fitted out with 2 Bauer compressors and a Nitrox Membrane system to allow you to experience all the Komodo region has to offer. If you are not already Nitrox certified, we highly recommend adding this short course at the start of your trip- please ask at the time of booking if you are interested!

safety procedures

no fly time

Plan for a minimum of 18 hours no fly time, as recommended by PADI. Your final dive will be on the morning of day 6, so please bear this in mind when booking your onward travel!

No Decompression Limits (NDL)

For those of you diving with your own dive computer, we ask that you inform your dive guide when you have 10 minutes of NDL's remaining so that they can start to shallow up and extend the bottom time for your group. Decompression diving is not allowed.

Nearest Hospital

There are two hospitals in Labuan Bajo town - a Siloam hospital and the local public hospital. In case of emergency we will contact Siloam hospital. The hospital is over an hours boat ride away from the resort and about two hours by boat from the National Park. We do have speed boats to use in an emergency that reduce this time. Serious emergencies will most likely require a low flying aircraft to Bali.

Nearest Recompression Chamber

There is a recompression chamber at Siloam Hospital in Labuan Bajo, however the opening hours are sporadic and it is advertised for beauty treatments so it is not always available. Should the recompression chamber in Labuan Bajo not be available there is one in Bali - the hospital will help arrange a low flying aircraft. This is one of the reasons we require all divers to have insurance that covers emergency evacuations

insurance

Insurance is mandatory for diving with us in the Komodo National Park. This is due to the remoteness of the area and limited medical facilities in Labuan Bajo. We can help to organise short term DAN insurance. Please let us know if required at the time of booking!

skills refresher

If you have not dived in 6 months or longer then we offer a free skills refresher at the start of your first dive with us. This will include a review of the equipment set up, pre-dive safety check and some underwater skills.
